SPANDAN LOSING ITS CHARM.................................

The first week of Feb, 2010 was devoted to Spandan……………….Spandan, the Inter Faculty Youth Festival of Banaras Hindu University………………..which remains the most awaited programme for the students of the university every year. Students strive for getting a chance to perform in it, and feel immensely lucky if they got one. Others who don’t participate, or can not, feel enormously longing for seeing others’ performance by being just spectators. Spandan has every necessary aspect to captivate each and every student studying here. But the things were quite different this year. It seemed to have lost the charm of this mega-event.
The reasons behind this could be said none other than the new rules and regulations imposed on this event by the university’s high command. And they are many………talked again and again by the kith and kin of the university, whether they are students, teachers or other staff members. Restricting songs and dances to be performed on popular music of Bollywood, is one of such new regulations.
All such rules are made in the name of students’ benefits. But the diminished rate of strength of students attending the event this year shows a different picture. They must be feeling disenchantment with their favorite and own programme. How restricting students from enjoying their own event or binding them in such rules and regulations which cannot be seen to be viable in the 21st century, is beneficial for students? Only God knows……………who else??? Many are saying even that it’s better to have no such an event any more……………………………
In this way of dissatisfaction, Spandan ends along with the week. Well, every story must have a beginning, mid and an end. Every story ends with a hope and every hope provides a new beginning. Lets hope for the better for the Spandan coming up in the next year………………….
